Statistics On Eating Disorders And Self Image
- About 3% of women currently have a severe eating disorder. At least 10% of Québec girls and women aged 13 to 30 suffer from a major eating disorder 1, 2
- 0.5% to 4% of women will suffer from anorexia nervosa at some point in their life, and 1% to 4% will suffer from bulimia. 3
- 5% to 10% of cases of anorexia nervosa and 10% to 15% of cases of bulimia occur in men and boys. 4, 5
- 34% of teenage boys and over 40% of teenage girls in high school are unhappy with their body image and say they want to change their appearance. 6
- 56% of women who are at a healthy weight according to their calculated body mass index want to lose weight. 7
